Climate change is undoubtedly one of the greatest challenges facing humanity today. As centers of knowledge, innovation, and international collaboration, universities have a vital role to play in addressing this global crisis. In this regard, the Silk-Road Universities Network (SUN) is uniquely positioned to make a meaningful contribution. A New chapter for SUN: Climate Collaboration and Africa In this issue of SILKROADIA, Dr. Adam Fenech, a world-renowned Canadian climate scientist, explores how universities particularly SUN member institutions can work together to confront the challenges of climate change. We are honored to present a series of articles by Dr. Fenech and his colleagues as the Cover Story of this issue. Dr. Fenech, an award-winning researcher at Canadian University Dubai, has devoted nearly four decades to climate science. He shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize through his contributions to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and was later awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of his outstanding environmental work. For the COVER STORY, Dr. Fenech authored the lead article, Climate Change along the Silk Road, and co-authored three additional articles with leading experts examining the impact of climate change on the Silk Roads from the perspectives of human health, protected areas, and tourism.
