Tlemcen Hosts the 5th National Conference on Forensic Medical Expertise

The University of Tlemcen opened its doors on Friday to the 5th National Conference on Forensic Medical Expertise, a major scientific event held this year under the theme: “Standardizing Norms and Practices in Forensic Medicine.”

The conference is taking place at the main auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine – City Center – and is organized in partnership with the Algerian Academy for the Advancement of Forensic Medical Sciences and the National Institute of Forensic Medicine. It brings together a wide range of forensic doctors, judicial experts, and academic researchers from across the country.

Over the course of two days, participants are engaging in discussions on key issues affecting the field, including the quality and reliability of expert medical reports, harmonization of professional practices, integration of digital tools and modern technologies, and the respect for human rights within forensic procedures.

The scientific sessions cover a variety of topics, such as the current state and future prospects of forensic medicine in Algeria, the use of cutting-edge techniques like virtual autopsy and medical imaging, and ethical and legal responsibilities of forensic experts. Special attention is also given to the challenges of conducting forensic work in prison environments.

Organizers emphasize the importance of such events in “laying the foundations for a rigorous, transparent, and modern practice aligned with legal and technological developments.” The conference is expected to conclude on Saturday, July 5, with the presentation of strategic recommendations emerging from the discussions.

Through this initiative, Tlemcen reaffirms its position as a national hub for scientific knowledge and academic dialogue.
