National Events | The University of Tlemcen Commemorates the Immigration Day of October 17, 1961

Under the supervision of Pr. MEGHACHOU Mourad, Rector of the University of Abou Bekr Belkaïd – Tlemcen, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences organized a commemorative ceremony marking the National Immigration Day, celebrated on October 17, 1961, in the presence of vice-rectors, deans, professors, and students.

The event began with speeches recalling the tragedy of October 17, 1961, when French colonial authorities committed horrific massacres against Algerians who had peacefully demonstrated in Paris to demand their country's independence.

Participants emphasized the importance of preserving national memory and passing it on to younger generations, in order to honor the sacrifices of the martyrs and strengthen attachment to the values of freedom, dignity, and patriotism.

The ceremony concluded with a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs, in an atmosphere filled with national pride and loyalty to Algeria’s glorious history.

Eternal glory to our martyrs, and long live free and independent Algeria.
