A high-level working meeting was held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Vice-Rectorate for External Relations of the University of Tlemcen. Attendees included Prof. Ali HAMZA CHERIF, Vice-Rector for External Relations, Ms. Hélène Guiol, Head of the Education Department at the UNESCO Regional Office for North Africa, Ms. Sabra SOUHILI, Education Coordinator at the UNESCO Office in Algiers, Prof. Latifa NEGADI, Representative of Campus Africa/UNESCO in Algeria, and Prof. Cherifa ABDELBAKI, Representative of the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Development and Resilience. Prof. Souheil GAOUER, proposer of a new UNESCO Chair project, also participated in the meeting.
During the session, a detailed presentation highlighted the University's academic projects and initiatives under the UNESCO Chair, aimed at addressing challenges related to climate change, water security, food sustainability, as well as enhancing resilience in the energy sector. Future plans to expand academic cooperation with national and international institutions, in alignment with the sustainable development goals, were also discussed.
The UNESCO Chair project proposed by Prof. Souheil GAOUER was presented during the meeting, representing a significant contribution to the University’s trajectory in this field.
Ms. Hélène Guiol emphasized the importance of monitoring the progress of these initiatives and their role in reinforcing the University of Tlemcen’s standing as a leading institution, open to international organizations and committed to sustainable innovation, she also praisied the remarkable efforts of the university team that contributed to obtaining this prestigious Chair.
This meeting reflects the University of Tlemcen’s commitment to academic excellence and the strengthening of its international dimension, confirming its active role in supporting sustainable development at both local and regional levels.
