The Meeting of the Regional Conference of Western Universities (CRUO) at Tlemcen University

Tlemcen University hosted, on Thursday, November 27, 2025, the meeting of the Regional Conference of Western Universities (CRUO), as part of the ongoing monitoring of the academic situation and the implementation of ministerial directives related to the current academic year.

This meeting follows the session held by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. BEDDARI Kamel, with the directors of the regional conferences on November 19, 2025, dedicated to the evaluation of various pedagogical and regulatory procedures.

The session was inaugurated with an address by the president of the conference, Prof. CHALAL Ahmed, who guided the work toward examining a rich agenda that included strategic issues related to university dynamics. He emphasized the importance of coordination between university institutions, the evaluation of the pedagogical performance of the first semester, as well as monitoring the integration of the English language into the educational system—considered one of the major transformations shaping Algerian universities in order to support global academic openness and the requirements of international mobility.

Participants also discussed the topic of innovation and entrepreneurship, and their role in creating a new student ecosystem that fosters the emergence of impactful projects. They examined the monitoring of practical internships and specific pathways to ensure training that is more closely aligned with professional realities.

During the meeting, participants also presented the progress of the “Study in Algeria” program, in addition to discussing mechanisms to enhance the quality of education through the activation of the quality assurance system and the adoption of ISO standards, considered a key component for improving pedagogical and administrative performance within university institutions.

Discussions also addressed the update of the “Algerian Qualifications Framework” project, aimed at unifying national training standards and defining educational benchmarks, representing a significant step forward in improving the quality of higher education and facilitating the recognition of competencies and skills.

This meeting briefly represents a new stage in a series of encounters aimed at strengthening coordination among higher education institutions and unifying efforts to improve the quality of teaching and scientific research, thus contributing to supporting the position of Algerian universities and enhancing their presence within their national and international environment.
