The University of Tlemcen is honored to announce that it will host Dr. ZERHOUNI Adam Ilyes, a distinguished scientist from Algeria and the city of Tlemcen, internationally recognized as a pioneer in medical radiology and magnetic resonance imaging.

• ZERHOUNI Elias Adam, one of the pioneering innovators in the field of medical radiology for more than a decade, holds a PhD in medicine from the University of Algiers (1975).
• He immigrated to the United States at the age of 24, received a scholarship to Johns Hopkins University, and became a chief resident physician (1978).
• He is one of the leading founders of magnetic resonance imaging, contributing to its development from crude anatomy to molecular imaging of the body.
• He is a pioneer in the use of magnetic markers to track three-dimensional heart movement and diagnose breast cancer.
• He has participated in research on computed tomography to distinguish benign from malignant nodules in the lungs.

• The Gold Medal from the American Roentgen Ray Society for his research in computed tomography.
• Two Paul Lauterbur Awards for his research in magnetic resonance imaging.

• Director of the US National Institutes of Health (2002–2008).
