Scientific events/National symposium titled :“Digital Transformation and Literacy: Academic Approaches to Building a Knowledge Society.”

The Mohammed Dib Public Library of Tlemcen hosted, on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the national symposium titled “Digital Transformation and Literacy: Academic Approaches to Building a Knowledge Society.” The event was jointly organized by the Research Unit on Linguistic Reality and the Evolution of Linguistic Studies in the Arab World – Tlemcen and the Mohammed Dib Public Library, in the presence of leading academic and scientific figures.

The Rector of the University of Tlemcen, Prof. MEGHACHOU Mourad, emphasized the need to move beyond traditional knowledge production in order to build a digital society capable of generating knowledge. He also expanded the concept of illiteracy to include digital, informational, and functional dimensions, and called for strengthening digital linguistics as well as projects linking technology and the Arabic language.

During the inaugural session, an important presentation was delivered on the efforts of the National Office for Literacy and Adult Education, highlighting the importance of integrating technology into educational pathways.

The first scientific session addressed human values, health, socialization, adult education, and the use of artificial intelligence and augmented reality in teaching.
The second session focused on the digital divide and ways to reduce it, the role of cultural and educational institutions, historical and national experiences, as well as education for visually impaired individuals.

The symposium was also marked by the signing of a scientific cooperation agreement between the University of Tlemcen and the Research Unit on Linguistic Reality and the Evolution of Linguistic Studies in the Arab World, aimed at developing joint projects and strengthening the role of the Arabic language in the digital environment.

The first day concluded in a positive atmosphere, with participants reaffirming the importance of building a national vision that places digitization at the service of balanced development, ahead of the continuation of sessions and workshops the following day.
