Silver Jubilee of the Department of Archaeology – Celebrating 25 Years of Foundation and Scientific Excellence (2001–2025)

The Department of Archaeology of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, in collaboration with the Laboratory of Archaeological Heritage and Its Valorization, celebrated on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, its Silver Jubilee, marking the 25th anniversary of its establishment (2001–2025).

The ceremony was held in the presence of the Vice-Rector in charge of External Relations, Prof. Ali HAMZA CHERIF, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Nasreddine BEDAOUED, the Head of the Department of Archaeology, Prof. Bouabdellah BELDJOUZI, as well as a distinguished group of faculty members and former department leaders.

Following the inauguration of the commemorative exhibition, the delegation proceeded to the Abou El Kacem Saadallah Conference Hall, where the ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the performance of the national anthem. Official speeches then recounted a quarter-century of scientific, pedagogical, and institutional commitment.

The Vice-Rector officially declared the ceremony open, which featured two main presentations:

The first, delivered by Prof. Chergui RERZGUI, provided a scientific overview of the department’s activities over twenty-five years, highlighting the development of research and training.

The second, presented by Prof. Belhadj MAÂROUF, detailed the activities of the Laboratory of Archaeological Heritage and Its Valorization, including research and field projects conducted during this period.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of honors to a group of faculty members and former department leaders, in recognition of their exceptional contribution to the development of the department and the academic and scientific prominence of the university.
