The University of Tlemcen organized ,on Thursday, December 11, 2025, a commemorative ceremony marking December 11, 1960, a symbolic date in the struggle for national independence. The event was held in the Abou El-Kacem Saâdallah Hall of the Faculty of Humanities, in the presence of vice-rectors, deans, faculty members, and students.
The ceremony began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the national anthem, sung by all attendees, reflecting their deep attachment to the nation’s historical memory. Prof. HAMZA CHRIF Ali, Vice-Rector in charge of External Relations, emphasized the importance of preserving historical memory as a bridge between generations and the founding figures of independence. Prof. BENDAOUED Nasreddine, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, highlighted the decisive role of the December 11, 1960 demonstrations in accelerating the Revolution. A presentation by a professor from the History Department further underscored the symbolic significance of this day, affirming the people’s determination to achieve freedom and end colonial rule.
The ceremony concluded in a reflective silence, serving as a reminder that historical memory extends beyond books, and that the University continues to play a vital role in fostering national awareness and strengthening the sense of belonging.
