The First Online International Conference on Second Language Writing

The First Online International Conference on Second Language Writing, organized within the framework of the PRFU Research Team (PRFU: H02L01UN130120230005) under the supervision of the FLPATP Research Laboratory, officially started on February 11th, 2026, and was held virtually via Google Meet. The conference is organized by the FLPATP Research Laboratory in collaboration with the Department of English at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, whose valuable support contributed to the excellence of this event and its alignment with the interests of academics, researchers, scholars, and writers.
The conference was officially declared open through honorary speeches delivered by:
Prof. Meghachou Mourad, Rector of the University of Tlemcen.
Prof. Hamza Reguig Mouro Wassila, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages.
Dr. Rahmoun Omar, Vice Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research.
Dr. Meryem Mengouchi, Deputy Head of the Department in Charge of Students’ Affairs.
Dr. Adder Fatima Zohra, Head of the FLPATP Research Laboratory.
The Conference Chairs, Dr. Fatima Zohra BELKHIR and Dr. Wafa ZEKRI, expressed their enthusiasm at launching the first day of sessions, during which keynote speakers and oral presenters addressed significant topics related to Second Language Writing (SLW), professionalism, theory, practice, research, and technology, including Artificial Intelligence.
The first day brought together prominent national and international experts, namely:
Prof. Touria Drid – University of Ouargla, Algeria.
Dr. Tara Keenan – John Cabot University, Rome.
Dr. Abu Saleh Mohammad Rafi – University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh.
Dr. Maureen Rooney – Honorary Guest Speaker and Writing Specialist from the University of Rhode Island, U.S.A.
Afternoon plenary sessions are delivered by:
Mr. Lawrence Cleary – University of Ireland.
Dr. Kamal Belmihoub – Baruch College, City University of New York.
The program continues tomorrow with keynote addresses by:
Prof. Ahhmed Bechar – University of Biskra, Algeria.
Prof. Irene Verde – University of Valencia, Spain.
Six panels were scheduled during the morning of the first day, followed by additional sessions in the afternoon and on the second day.
This conference constitutes a promising platform for academics and scholars to collaborate, connect, and build research networks. Presentations were structured around the following tracks:
  1. Second Language Writing: Theory, Research, Teaching, and Assessment.
  2. Professional Development in Teaching Second Language Writing.
  3. Second Language Writing in Interdisciplinary Research.
  4. Professionalization of Second Language Writing Teachers.
  5. Second Language Research Writing: Backward and Forward Perspectives.
  6. Second Language Writing and Generative AI.
