National Scientific Conference “Nights of Calligraphy and Manuscripts” – 9th Edition

A look back at the activities of the National Scientific Conference entitled “Nights of Calligraphy and Manuscripts”, held in its ninth edition under the theme “Ghusn Al-Andalus al-Ratib”, on Monday, March 2, and Tuesday, March 3, 2026 (corresponding to 12 and 13 Ramadan 1447 H).
This event was organized by the National Public Museum of Islamic Calligraphy in Tlemcen, in scientific coordination with the Laboratory of Andalusian Literary and Linguistic Studies at the Faculty of Letters and Arts of the University of Tlemcen, on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
The conference is part of the cultural program supervised by the Ministry of Culture and Arts, through the Department of Culture and Arts of the Wilaya of Tlemcen, aiming to promote manuscript heritage and the arts of Arabic calligraphy, while highlighting the Andalusian legacy in Algerian culture and raising awareness of the value of this civilizational heritage.
This edition also sought to foster an in-depth scientific discussion on the manifestations of the Andalusian era in manuscripts and writing arts, through scholarly presentations delivered by specialized professors and researchers, including Prof. Abdelkader Boubaya from the University of Oran, Prof. Mahi Guendouze Nedroumi, and Prof. Hicham Bensnousi from the University of Tlemcen.
The conference further served as a platform for scientific exchange and sharing of experiences among enthusiasts of Arabic calligraphy and manuscript production, with the participation of several calligraphers, including Toufik Ayadi from the Wilaya of Bordj Bou Arreridj and Ferdjani Djilali from the Wilaya of Tissemsilt.
The activities of this ninth edition, organized thanks to the efforts of Dr. Cheikhi Mohamed Abdeljalil, took place in a Ramadan atmosphere combining spirituality and intellectual depth, thereby reaffirming Tlemcen’s status as a cultural hub and a meeting point of artistic schools with a prestigious historical legacy.
