The Department of Translation at the Faculty of Foreign Languages organized, on Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, a national colloquium entitled:“Translation is a means of strengthening the universality of the Arabic language in a multilingual environment: opportunities and challenges”,chaired by Dr BENMEHDI Nour Eddine and Dr CHAÂBANE SARI Zouleikha, in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. MOUROU Wassila, as well as the Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Arts, Prof. KHERBOUCH Abdelrahmane, with the participation of a wide panel of academics and researchers from various universities across the country.
This scientific event provided a rich forum for exchange on the central role of translation in consolidating the global presence of the Arabic language, and in strengthening its positioning in the face of rapid transformations taking place in the fields of knowledge and communication worldwide.
The presentations addressed several key themes, notably:
- The role of translation in promoting the universality of the Arabic language and consolidating its presence in international contexts;
- Translation in the era of globalization and multilingualism, along with the opportunities and challenges it entails;
- The contribution of translation to knowledge transfer and the promotion of intercultural dialogue among peoples;
- The impact of modern technologies and artificial intelligence on the evolution of translation practices;
- The state of translation in Algeria and the prospects for its academic and professional development.
Participants also emphasized the importance of specialized training in translation and the need to keep pace with digital transformations in order to enhance translators’ competencies, thereby improving the quality of scientific and cultural production in the Arabic language.
The colloquium concluded by affirming that translation constitutes a fundamental pillar in building bridges of civilizational communication, as well as a strategic lever for strengthening the status of the Arabic language in international spaces.
