To commemorate Algeria's National Day of Memory and the victims of the May 8, 1945 massacres, the University of Tlemcen held a commemorative ceremony on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Central Library's conference hall. The event began with the national anthem and a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by an address by the University's Rector, Pr.Mourad MEGHACHOU, attended by deans, faculty members, and students.

Pr. Nasr Eddine Ben Daoud, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, highlighted the historical significance of the date, describing it as a defining moment that strengthened Algeria's national consciousness and paved the way for the War of Independence.

The program also featured two lectures by Hamza Haddou and Hadjer Bouziani, titled "When the Blood of Algerians Turned into Victory," offering historical and philosophical perspectives on the events of May 8, 1945. The ceremony concluded with a tribute to the speakers, reaffirming the University of Tlemcen's commitment to preserving national memory and promoting the values of patriotism and historical awareness among future generations.
