University of Tlemcen holds a dual ceremony of tribute and academic celebration

The University of Tlemcen held an official ceremony on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the auditorium of the downtown pole, dedicated to institutional recognition and academic remembrance. The event featured a dual tribute: honoring the late former University Rector, Pr. Mustapha Djaafour, who passed away in 2018, and celebrating the promotion of 178 teachers to the rank of professor for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025.
The ceremony was attended by the University Rector, Pr. Mourad MEGHACHOU, vice-rectors, faculty deans, former university officials, as well as institutional partners and social representatives. The families of the promoted academics, as well as the relatives of the deceased, were also present, giving the event both a solemn and human dimension.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the official naming of the auditorium after Professor Mustapha Djaffour, in recognition of his significant contribution to the development and structuring of the university. Several speeches highlighted his career, strategic vision, and enduring commitment to the institution.
In addition, 178 teachers from various disciplines were honored for their promotion to the rank of professor, reflecting the university’s continued commitment to academic excellence.
Through this initiative, the University of Tlemcen reaffirmed its commitment to valuing its human resources, preserving the memory of its founding figures, and promoting scientific excellence within a framework of continuity and institutional recognition
