The second and final day of the International Conference entitled “Africa–Europe: Demographic Dynamics, Youth, Migration and Development”, organized within the framework of the Jean Monnet Project and funded by the European Union, took place on Thursday, 11 June 2026, at the Mustapha Djaaffour Auditorium of the City Centre Campus.

The second day focused on key issues related to health, innovation, and the epidemiological transition, bringing together distinguished academics and international experts who participated both in person and online.

The programme began with an International Online Panel dedicated to youth, innovation, and cooperation in addressing demographic challenges, featuring researchers from several European universities. The panel was followed by a presentation by Mr. Alexandros Lygouras on the Jean Monnet Programme and the opportunities it offers to young people.

The scientific sessions then continued with Session IV-A, chaired by Professor Noureddine Daoudi, on the theme “Health, Ageing and Epidemiological Transition.” During this session, Professor Ali Hamza Cherif, Vice-Rector for External Relations, delivered a presentation on the socio-economic challenges and public policies associated with demographic ageing in Algeria. Additional contributions addressed global health governance, health transition, as well as maternal health and healthcare systems in Algeria.

Meanwhile, Session IV-B, chaired by Professor Nedjla Mortad, brought together presentations delivered in Arabic. Speakers examined demographic and epidemiological transitions in the Maghreb countries, strategies for harnessing Algeria’s demographic dividend, and the challenges posed by irregular African migration to Europe in the context of current geopolitical developments. Session V further explored demographic dynamics, population ageing in Africa, and the impact of migration on Algerian medical professionals working in Europe.

The conference concluded with the presentation of the session chairs’ summary reports, followed by the reading and formal adoption of the conference recommendations, reflecting two days of productive academic discussions. The recommendations emphasized the importance of strengthening academic cooperation and joint scientific research between the two shores of the Mediterranean in order to address demographic and public health challenges.

The event officially closed with the closing ceremony and the presentation of certificates of recognition to the participating delegations and speakers, marking the successful conclusion of this important international scientific gathering.
