The UNESCO Regional Center for Quality and Excellence in Education is pleased to invite ministries of education, national commissions, international and regional organizations, teacher education institutions, professional bodies, researchers, school leaders, and teachers from around the world to participate virtually in its 2026 World Teachers’ Day programme, taking place from **5 to 8 October 2026**, daily from **12:00 noon to 2:30 p.m. Saudi Arabia time (UTC+3)**.
The programme coincides with the 60th anniversary of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers. It places teachers’ voices at the heart of the dialogue on the future of the profession through an international celebration entitled **“With Teachers, We Shape the Future,”** the launch of the international educational workshop for **“The Teacher We Want”** project, and the presentation of its preliminary framework for discussion and further development with teachers, policymakers, and partners.
The programme unfolds over four days, with four connected themes:
- Monday, 5 October : From celebration to action: Launch of the project, presentation of its initial vision, and voices of teachers from around the world.
- Tuesday, 6 October : Teachers’ voices: from practice to policy: Dialogue on teachers’ needs, professional conditions, and ways to involve them in education policymaking.
- Wednesday, 7 October : Building “The Teacher We Want” model: Interactive discussions on future roles and competencies, artificial intelligence in education, professional development, and quality of professional life.
- Thursday, 8 October : From teachers’ voices to an agenda for action: Exploring how the outcomes of the dialogue can be translated into policy directions, practical tools, and follow-up steps.
