University of Tlemcen Welcomes doctoral students at a ‘Welcome Day’: An overview of the training, research and complementary education pathways

The Central Library at the Mansourah campus of the University of Tlemcen hosted, on Monday 5 October 2026, a welcome and orientation day for doctoral students. Entitled ‘Welcome Day’, the event focused on introducing the various aspects of complementary training, as well as the academic and research pathways available to third-cycle students.
The event was attended by Pr. MEGHACHOU Mourad , Rector of the University of Tlemcen, alongside the university’s vice-rectors, faculty deans, academic staff and students.
In his opening address, the Rector welcomed the doctoral students and stressed the importance of this stage in their academic and scientific careers. He also underlined the need to provide students with continuous guidance and support from the outset of their training, in order to facilitate their integration into the university and research environment and enable them to make full use of the scientific and training resources provided by the university.
The programme continued with a presentation by Pr. BACHIR Redouane, Vice-Rector in charge of Higher Education for the Third Cycle, University Accreditation, Scientific Research and Postgraduate Higher Education, entitled ‘Managing and Supervising a Doctoral Thesis’.
The presentation addressed the organisation of the thesis project and the management of its various stages, highlighting the importance of effective planning and monitoring throughout the doctoral student’s research path.
The programme then continued with a series of presentations on doctoral complementary training, delivered by Professors :Abdelilah DJAFEL, Mortada BENAZZOUZ, Salim KARAI, Mohamed MERZOUG, Zineddine HADJ SLIMANE and Toufik DJANANE.
The speakers addressed various aspects of this training pathway, enabling doctoral students to gain a clearer understanding of its structure, objectives and role in strengthening researchers’ academic preparation, broadening their knowledge and developing their skills.
The programme also featured a presentation on the entrepreneurial ecosystem at the University of Tlemcen (i2E), delivered by Pr. Zakaria SARI HASSOUN, Head of the i2E Student Centre. The presentation highlighted the university’s entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem and the opportunities it provides for students and researchers to turn their ideas into viable projects, while opening up new avenues for engagement with the economic and social environment.
This was followed by a presentation by Pr. Nehal  KALOUCHE, Head of the Technology and Innovation Support Centre (CATI), focusing on the support mechanisms and initiatives available to promote innovation and research valorisation.
The event concluded with an open discussion with the doctoral students, providing an opportunity to combine welcome, guidance and an overview of the various components of the doctoral pathway.
Through this initiative, the University of Tlemcen reaffirmed its commitment to supporting doctoral students from the very beginning of their academic path and to providing them with a space for direct communication and guidance. The initiative is intended to help students build a clearer and better-structured research pathway, while strengthening their involvement in the university’s scientific and academic life.
