The Intensive Language Teaching Center at the University of Tlemcen organized a national scientific symposium entitled:
Yennayer: Amazigh Heritage and the Construction of Algerianity
In collaboration with the Arabic Language Teaching team for non-native speakers from the SILAD laboratory, under the supervision of Prof. Nassima Saïdi.
The symposium opened with a keynote lecture delivered by Prof. Ilham Serir (Mourtada), titled:
Yennayer and Cultural Identity in Algeria: History, Memory, and Continuity
The lecture addressed the historical and symbolic dimensions of Yennayer, emphasizing its role in consolidating collective memory and Algerian cultural identity, in front of an audience composed of international students, faculty members, and doctoral candidates.
The afternoon session featured diverse scientific presentations that enriched the discussion, along with a practical demonstration on Yennayer celebrations within the framework of a dialogue of civilizations. This initiative highlighted the cultural and communicative significance of the event, emphasizing values of coexistence and cultural openness, in the presence of the University Rector, Prof. MEGHACHOU Mourad , the Vice-Rector for External Relations, Prof. Ali HAMZA CHERIF, as well as the Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters.
As part of the international exchange, student Obwoya Justine Michael from Uganda presented a lecture titled:
An Introduction to Yennayer: A Pleasure and Joy
In which he expressed his deep appreciation for the importance of the symposium in enhancing his understanding of Algerian culture, praising its role in strengthening cultural exchanges among international students, and expressing his hope for more opportunities to participate in similar scientific and cultural events in the future.
This symposium is part of the University of Tlemcen’s efforts to promote cultural dialogue, foster international engagement, and consolidate shared civilizational values, making the University a hub of knowledge and cultural diversity.
