Online Seminar on the Tutoring System in Algerian Universities

As part of efforts to strengthen support mechanisms for first-year university students, the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences and Earth and Universe Sciences at Abou Bekr Belkaid University – Tlemcen organized, on February 17, 2026, an online seminar on the tutoring system in Algerian universities.
The seminar was opened by Prof. Hamza Cherif Ali, Vice-Rector in charge of External Relations, in the presence of the Dean of the Faculty. This was followed by a presentation from Prof. Bensaïm Bounouar, Vice-Rector in charge of Pedagogy, who discussed the importance of university tutoring and strategies to combat student dropout.
Tutoring and academic guidance constitute an integrated support system for first-year students, structured around six main axes: administrative and informational, pedagogical, methodological, technical, psychological, and professional. While these axes are clearly defined, their effective implementation requires thorough reflection and rigorous scientific research based on a true understanding of students’ needs.
The seminar aimed to provide a comprehensive analysis of tutoring practices in Algerian universities, foster a scientific discussion on effective tutor training, develop students’ transversal skills, and exchange best practices and innovative experiences to ensure the success of the tutoring system.
The event saw active participation from professors, tutors, and pedagogical experts and concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the tutoring system and improving the quality of student support, thereby promoting academic and professional success. The organizing committee also reaffirmed its commitment to developing modern pedagogical practices and advancing students’ academic paths.
